What is the future for CMOS Analog IC Designers ?

Power management
High Speed ADC
RF

Will RF be so popular for a long time?
Since it's driven by comm. industry, what if comm. industry is in trouble after 3G?

It seems that people will never be satisfied with the circuit speed. So the circuit frequency is getting higher and higher. Does that means if one want to be an analog designer in future, firstly he need to be a RF engineer?

yes they already have 80GHz PBRS generators in SiGe BiCMOS, 120GHz VCO's.

In a long run (or near future), bio tech will definitely boom. Analog IC should have broad application on it.

there nothing else but becoming a expert of amplifier design is the key of analog design,i suggest.

I think power manager and bio-sensor area will the hot topics. Also the analog design EDA will also a key.

We don't have to worry about the future of analog IC's designer. Every circuit needs interfaces to the external world.

These interfaces could be in several field mentionned above:
- MEMs or biomedics which interface electronics with mechanical or biological fields
- ADC/DAC that interfaces digital and analog
- RFIC's for wireless applications (everything tends to be wireless nowadays)
- Power Management which relates to the power efficiency of the more and more complex circuits that comes to the market.

As long as the real world will be continuous, which must last a few more years, there will always be a need for analog ICs, and even a growing demand for state-of the art analog interfaces.

analog design in general has made a comeback in the oast few years basically because digital cells have proven to be insufficient at higer speeds. every design house is struggling to hire analog designers for designing custom digital as well as other analog design work. analog desiners are hotter than ever. if you are a good or even an avarage analog designer you can write your own ticket.

What is the future for SiGe Analog IC Designers ?

Is SiGe BiCMOS technology good?

Biomedic might be hot. The problem is you need to learn a lot bio stuff first.

I read one paper a couple months ago. It said more than 60% research funding in US is heading to NIH.

that's what i asked in a different post (SiGe rfic).

for high volumes people use CMOS for rfic (think broadcom, qualcomm).

to push the state of the art, you use SiGe though (high frequencies).

remember Gray's advice:
Breadth is key to innovation and technology mobility --widen your horizons
The only constant is change

How about the future of delta sigma ADC ?

wider bandwidth, increased dynamic range, ghz sampling

hoho,

it is too difficult for one to master some of them.

Which aplication in analog design will be hot after next 10 years ??? ;)
Which will be more hot in future:
1.Analog Electronics ..
2.Device Electrnics ...

device electronics since shrinking geometry.

cmos fet will become like gaas mesfet, too much scaling gives no returns.

back to bipolar?
