cmos future scope

What should future designers be learning to keep themselves employed?

What I see is...

Data Converters (hardly any schools in the world teach this)
PLL (same thing)
Bandgaps
RFICs
Verilog Digital
Digital Logic Design

Anything else ?

What is the new killer application ? Still Wireless ? Biomedical ?

analog ic professor

why u say that about ADC?

DC-DC(especially on-chip, if possible), power managment IC will be hot, i promise.

the future of analog ic design

about the killer application, well, i would say that it would be biomedical. its because its really pushing technology to its limits. and believe me biomedical is at the high end of precision electronics.

hot well in cmos ic

UWB,RFID,Biosensor,Wireless Sensor Networks.

future cmos

UWB IS THE POINT

future of analog ic

mixed the op reference ad/da in a single chip.

Hi

I think future Biomedical......

hot topics in analog integrated circuit

But, how an analog designer or one guy with the skill of electronics play
an important role in biomedical indurstry?
The strongly application driven industry, an electronic designer doesn't
know the medical treatment or method. We only provide the hardware
implementation, if the implementation doesn't rely on clever design, the medical
industry can easily leverage the electronic designer, because so many designer
are avaliable in this time.

So, I think if you really think the medical application is the future, maybe you
need to get a degree of medicine, like biomedical engineering or medical
engineering.

By the way, I think the high demand of mixed signal designer is due
to the over investment in communicaiton industry like WLAN, Bluetooth,
USB, ADSL..etc.
And, the high demand may come from the lack of analog/mixed signal designer
in the HR market. I read an article before, it said long time ago, around ten years ago, the analog designer also discuss the furture of analog designer while they knew the power of DSP. So, this may make student and researcher don't like to touch analog design and make the lack of analog designer.
But, I feel the analog design is a hot topic from three years ago.

problem today is the older generation (the baby boomers) all over the world do not how to mentor and train the younger people. it takes at least 3-4 years to be a good analog designer... the world does not have patience for this anymore.

biomedical signal is analog in nature, and if u wanna process it through the powerful digital machine, u need a mixed signal interface anyway.

whther EE designer play a big role in that industry? who care.
coz it's always the boss who play the big role.

As a emplyee, u r slave no mater EE or BME.

Even a slave, they are divided into different levels.
In terms of possibility, the BME guys will be promoted to higher position rather
than EE guys in biomedical industry.

And, I'm not sure what will push or lead the biomedical industry into high
growth. The high growth comes from the innovation of electronic circuit?
or the new material, new physical device, new transducer?
or the new treatment of human body, tissues? This different resasons may
effect the role of circuit designer in this industry.

AD/DAC is the killer, I guess the key proplems in front-end receiver have been solved, the remaining part is how to control and compensate it by digital circuit and make it work better.

Then how about Microwave,ASIC,Optical Communication,etc.

i think when the BICMOS is very cheaper, all CMOS engineer must go back to learn biplolar design, because the proccess support more powerful design.at the same time,i think all aspects in your life is the most important aspect for designer to implemnet by microelectronic!!!!!! and the best way to avoid being fired is to hire yourself!!!!!!!!!

how about CMOS image sensors?
I saw a fast growing market these five years.

in my opinion every time there will be a need for analog ic designer.
As I know there are lots of vacant position in eu for ic designer. And this need in eu is increasing day by day

PLL --> High resolution PLL --> SSCG --> LVDS , TMDS

how about at your local school -- what is the hottest topic ?

(don't say rfic :) )
