Even today 0.35 um process is giving better results than 0.13 um with those design optimization procedures.
wide future still ahead! there's a vast field that's untapped mainly because everyone is going for digital. there's still the concept of the analog computer that's underdevloped. neural nets, etc... and analog is almost always full custom. so tools most of the time cannot or merely replace the analog design engineer.
