synopsys code coverage tools

Hi maxsnail:

Syn0psys also have a coverage tool named C0verMeter, and Tr@nsEDA have a

tool named VN.

synopsys covermeter + how to invoke it

Modelsim also provide code coverage covering statements, branch, expression and toggle coverage. I find it quite user friendly, just need to compile with the coverage options that you want and then simulate by turning on coverage, interactively or script driven.

I don't have experience with modelsim code coverage but synopsys code coverage tool is not very good. It is ok if you are doing small blocks but for large projects surecov from Verisity is much much better.

Take care.

I heard that simulator such as vcs,nc-sim could do code coverage!

RTL code coverage Tool

1. TransEDA Vnavigator

==> I have good experience for GUI interface of code Coverage
but, we have to invoke Cadnece simulator ( Nc-sim or verilog-XL).
you need to waste time for link to cadence tool.
but, result is good and gui environment is also good.

2. Cadence INCISIVE

==> cadence next verification platform.
you can simulate design and get code coverage both.
until incisive, TransEDA share big potion for coverage.
but, because of Incisive , cadence bring almost market share.
I personally recommed

3. synsopsys

==> actually, I don't heard anyone use this tool.

Synopsys acquired a product named CoverMeter and have integrated it very well into their simulator. It works with little overhead and recently they have added Assertion coverage as well. They are not that strong in GUI, but text reports are good. I believe their's is the best when you talk of an "built-in coverage tool" inside a HDL simulator (such as NC, MTI). I agree that products like VNavigator (Transeda), Surecov will be far better in their GUi as that's their bread-and-butter - they were all built as stand alone coverage tools. With VCS covermeter is free!
