latch vs. dff ?

it seems that the designers prefer latch to dff.
why?
latch is smaller or sth.?

Re: latch vs. dff ?

DFF is built of 2 identical D-Latches so it depends on your design and what you need: a latch or a flip-flop ..

Re: latch vs. dff ?

well, actually it s dependant on the application,

in general, a d flipflip is made of the latches as mentioned. this results in the time for getting the o/p more when compared to latch. each gate ll have its own delay, setup and hold time. so, they may prefer latches..

But, flipflops are better than latches in a way that, they avoid glitches in the circuitory better than latches. In latches, they occur more common. the postive rise edge of the clockand are almost guraranteed to have no glitches..

i concluide that its only a compromise between the two.. other than speed, no other factor is there between latch and a flipflop!
