test ethernet mac controller

hi all,

i have a ethernet mac controller. can someone suggest me a way to test this ethernet
controller? i have a spartan 3A board with me. how can i get the data packets sent from the spartan 3a board to a pc?

A program on the PC such as Wireshark (formerly "Ethereal", it is free, Google it :)) can be used to "sniff" on an Ethernet interface.
