object tracking using received signal strength

hi,
i would like to track node depends upon signal strength received by node from access point.actually iam placing node in between some access points giving input as transmission power for access points.and i like to calculate distance between access points and node.iam using free space pathloss model.i tried to use friis equation to calculate distance between access points an node but i dont know how to calculate both received signal strength and distance. please if you have any code in c++ send me
