about physical design

Hi,
Does anyone know any useful websites or papers or books on physical design? I know there are some ASIC books dealing with physical design in one or two chapters, but I need an in-depth knowledge about this, especially in clock/power design and floorplan....

Many thanks in advance!

about physical design

There are only some thumb rules.

Re: about physical design

there is no book that gives full details about physical design,
better u can refer some research papers from DAC ,
there u can find trends and methods adopted in a physical design

Re: about physical design

hi
for physical design you need to know some basics which you can read from ASIC book by Smith.read chapter from Floorplanning onwards.also have a look into online course from Magma in Physical design.

Re: about physical design

Hi,

I would suggest the following steps

1) Read one or two books on physical design

There're two e-books talking about physical design in this forum:
An Introduction to VLSI Physical Design
h**p://
and
Algorithms for VLSI physical design automation
h**p://

The former one is more conceptual and introductary, and is more suitable for one who just want to get a flavor of physical design.

2) Read the white papers of some EDA tools to see what they're targeting for, what are the methodologies behind it. Usually EDA tools are chasing the most hot issues in ASIC design.

3) Talk to some experienced designer or/and CAD developers. Designers and CAD developers may have different perspective on physical design.

4) Read papers on DAC/ICCAD. But be aware of what you're reading. Not all the papers out there are worth reading anyway. Try to find someone to tell you which ones are practical, solid and meaningful.

Thers are some books you can look:
1 IC design
2 IC Mask design
3 The Art of Analog Layout
4 CMOS Circuit Design,Layout,and Simulation

Re: about physical design

you should read the "High Speed Digital Design: A handbook of black magic", Johnson HW, 1993

about physical design

there are actually lesser books describing physical design.actually u do not need books to learn physical design, just get hold of some free ware layout tool and try making layouts of digital circuits which u are familiar with, then simulate them in spice.in specific if u want to learn analog layout, alan hastings is a good book.also the asic design flow is described well in sebastein smith(application specific integrated circuits).
