I wanted to build the ICD2 w/REAL usb but just realized that the CY7C64613 is impossible to buy, so I'm glad I didn't waste my time making the board yet. Has anyone tried replacing the CY7C64613 with a CY7C64713? Maybe someone can try upgrading the firmware to utilize this component. I just downloaded the development tools from Cypress and am going to try it myself, if I'm successful, I'll upload it. I've got a lot of reading to do first....

it's available at RS components for some 20 euros.

upgrade 74hc125 output current

rs no longer have any stock now of these chips and not sure if they are geting any more have to wait and see if they do i have looked every where and cannot find any more in uk anybody elese know

cheers wizpic

icd2 original schematic

I bought my cy7c64613 at radiospare.fr, the french company of rs component... last week ! they still have it in stock. but I dont know other rs offices in the world..

Added after 1 minutes:

and the icd2 really usb based works very fine...

icd scematics

I have just finished my RS232 ICD2 trying to make it as. I used the "microchip original" schematics at the mcu.cz page replacing the DG411 with BSS92/74ls07 (taken from one of the clones schematics) the VCC target is handled by a IRF9530 (an overkill). The Vpp supply is build with the MC34063 wich gave more than 20 volts with the preset at max. I used a 10K preset instead of the digital pot, which I will include when I can get one.
The MCU is a 16f877 and the bootloader used is tbe BL010101.hex included with the mplab 6.40. Then I loaded the operating system into it with the appropriate mplab command.
I tested it programming a 16f628A and a 16f628 and it worked fine.
I include a photo of it and the universal programming adapter that I made.
I still have to try the debugging function and I thinking in using a 18fxx50 with usb2 to replace the cypress.

I dont think mplab will recognize the 18fxx50.. mplab want a real cypress usb chip..
except if microchip changes really their new icd2 (icd3 ?) with a 18fxx50 in it...

www.pmlabs.de.vu

Kripton2035, I think that the pic18fxx50 could emulate the cypress . Of course ignoring the firmware load that the cypress chip initiates when connected to the USB. Not an easy task but the pic is rather cheap and in a dil package
Drawback is that microchip could modify this firmware in new versions of mplab but it would be easy to modify once we have a working firmware of our own.

what the cypress sends and receive on the usb wires is in its datasheet. but I dont think that you can be low enought in the usb communications to emulate the cypress with the 18fxx50... but I havnt tried so far, so may be you're right ? that would be indeed a very nice experiment !

Schematics for ICD2

Hi all,
where can I found the BL010101.hex .
I didnt have mplab 6.40.
Regards.

Re: Schematics for ICD2

ebenni, I guess that BL010101.hex should exist in every version of mplab. Older versions of this IDE can be downloaded from the microchip site. They are all available.
Several BL had been posted on this forum. But since it is very small, I am attaching the one I used. Remember that this works for a 16f877 and not for the 16f877A.

Re: Schematics for ICD2

Kripton2035 I am starting a new topic about replacing the cypress. With a more detailed description.

Hi,

Is it possible just to use only RS232? The real ICD2 has some funny problem on it RS232. Please kindly advice. Thank you.

Regards

If you use pure RS232 for the ICD2, then select the baud as 19.2 baud and if you use USB to RS232 cable, then you can go to 57.6 baud.

Cheers

There is several topics about icd2 clone. Read this topics and you will find proper boot loader. As I can remember it is bootloader from zaphod42.

Schematics for ICD2

Hi, anyone have the original icd661.asm (not the decompiled version using IC-Prog, this version is very hard to understood)? I really needed to do some firmware reverse engineering. Pls email to be_jouster@hotmail.com

Best regards.
