I think you are right.
IC design project is generally like software project. Of course, there are some difference between them. But, for a project perspective, they are the same, I think.
Hi,
I think managment is really a kind of art and you can get this skill by training. But you first must start from knowing the main steps in the IC design .
I think that this book can help you(but if you are intersted in digital design)
digital CMOS gdesign author:Yusuf Leblebici, and another one that I don't know him.
Hi,
You should know the over all knowledge of the ASIC flow.
Plus u should know, how to manage the people and track the action items. Expereience is the good teacher.
We used CVS for IC design before, i.e., rtl, verification environment, test cases etc.. We switched to S/y/n/c/h/r/o/n/i/c/i/t/y 2 years ago. The P/r/o/j/e/c/t Sync and D/e/s/i/g/n Sync products proved to be useful for teams all around the globe.
ASIC project management usually requires good understanding of the flow, from front-end to backend, and from tape out to ATE to lab validation. It's not easy. Books are usually written by professors who don't have know much about industry practice. There is something that can only be learned by doing it, not reading from books.
