Re: how manage a IC design project

Hi AndyJing:

I think first of first the Project Manager should know the IC design flow

well, otherwise the management will be a big problem.

how manage a IC design project

You can enter a Project Management training

who can give some classical books about IC project management

Project management does not depend on it context. It is method only.

I think you are right.
IC design project is generally like software project. Of course, there are some difference between them. But, for a project perspective, they are the same, I think.

Hi,
I think managment is really a kind of art and you can get this skill by training. But you first must start from knowing the main steps in the IC design .
I think that this book can help you(but if you are intersted in digital design)

digital CMOS gdesign author:Yusuf Leblebici, and another one that I don't know him.

asic handbook is good book,it make some suggestions about asic project management.
i need more detail book

Hi

Is there anything like CVS (concurrent version control) for IC design?

I think if it will be then it will be fantastic and WOW!!

tnx

u can join some team ...
and cowork with a project ...
u will leran at all efficienctly..

First you must know :
(1) Design Flow
(2) IC Design Knowledge: can find solution to any question in project
(3) System Spec.

And then, you must have a schedule, and must do the best you could finish it on schedule.

to be a project manager is a had thing,we will try our best to do it.

Hi,
You should know the over all knowledge of the ASIC flow.
Plus u should know, how to manage the people and track the action items. Expereience is the good teacher.

krishna

We used CVS for IC design before, i.e., rtl, verification environment, test cases etc.. We switched to S/y/n/c/h/r/o/n/i/c/i/t/y 2 years ago. The P/r/o/j/e/c/t Sync and D/e/s/i/g/n Sync products proved to be useful for teams all around the globe.

ASIC project management usually requires good understanding of the flow, from front-end to backend, and from tape out to ATE to lab validation. It's not easy. Books are usually written by professors who don't have know much about industry practice. There is something that can only be learned by doing it, not reading from books.

Just my 2 cents.
