help: function generator

i am having the xr2206 function generator IC.can anyone guide me on how to generate pulse waveforms whose amplitude can be controlled real time(using a PC or microcontroller)
can anyone tell me how do u generate ramp waveform using the IC?

I used this. I didnt got proper output. So I used MAX038 from Maxim. This as per datasheet specs worked well for me.

But if you want to use for precise frequency, getting from these two is not that much easy.

thanx for the suggestio. but max038 is a discontinued product.....
can anyone suggest any ic of DIP package which can perform the above mentioned tasks??

can anyone suggest a circuit or design method from which i can get pulses of different amplitude?

Try the Analog Devices Product - AD5932.
Max 25MHz, Sine/Triangle/Square Wave Output.
