Function of Impedance Analyzer (HP4294)

Hello,

can anybody explain my the function of a Impedance Analyzer? Does it match the impedance to the DUT for each frequency. If so then I could also measure the gain of the DUT bacause I know the signal on the input and could measure also the output.

Then I could determine the gain at each frequency matched circut.

My problem:
I measure an Amplifier with Network Analyser and the gain is higher with Impedance Analyzer why?
