Decoupilng CAPS

Hi

I need to place some decoupling capacitors in my design. Just want to know ,is there any criteria to select them?

thanks in advance.

Criteria:
> total cap value
> capacitance per unit area
> leakage characteristics

I believe long back there had been a good discussion on MIMCAP versus MOSCAP.
