what is the difference between ADCMP553 comparator mode and transparent mode?

transparent could be faster than comparator mode?

Do you mean the latch inputs? They are there so you can 'sample' the inputs and hold the result of the comparison.

No, there is a transparent mode mentioned inside datasheet on page 11.
 

Yes, that is when you don't use the latch. 'transparent' mode is just like a 'normal' comparator - not latched. Latched mode is for sampling the inputs & holding the comparator result,
