How to get the Maximum Instantaneous Current of a circuit?

Hi,

How can we get the Maximum Instantaneous Current of a circuit? Which tool can help us do it?

that depends on which domain, digital & analog ?
on digital part, you need to:
1-netlist simulation with timing, to obtain a VCD for example
2-used a tool like PrimeTime PX, to obtain the dynamic simulation, and you can found the highest power consumption

so that means we can use the PTPX to get the dynamic power, and found the max power consumption, and then get the MIC (max power / voltage).

So the simulation must can contain the best case, the maximum probability switching for most cells. right?

Is there any tools who can throw out the MIC(Maximum Instantaneous Current) while just swallow the netlist? or else, we should use a exhaustivity testbench, right?

in general the worst case, in term of power consumption, is in scan mode, because all flip-flops are toggling, and also the combinational logic change.
Normaly, in functional mode, only the memory has been added, but the power comsumption of the memories is quite easy to calculate, after knowing the number of read/write access done by memory instance (or by approximation).

You can dump a vcd/fsdb or some vector.. You can do dvd analysis using the tools like redhawk/cooltime which will provide you maximum instantaneous current at the cycle of your interest.
