why strips of metal used in transformer instead of solid cor

i want to know why strips are used as acore in the transformer
 

Thin insulated strips of steel are stacked to make transformer instead of using one-piece solid core to prevent eddy current losses.

With solid steel core eddy current essentially dies due to short circuit, thereby reducing transformer efficiency.
