It depends on your application and the value of the resistor you want.
Every material has a different sheet resistance, the figure below can give you an idea of the sheet resistance material!! And you have to pay atention in the parasitics, temperature variation and area that every kind of resistor has, usually diffused resistors (n++ or p++) has parasistic diodes with the substrate but they get high resisitor values and they have a high temperature coefficient.
Poly resistors has a medion value and thet have parasitic capacitors with the substrate. And they can be floatind resistors.
