Hi,

I normally use a large 3 pin plug (screw type) for RS 485 networking. Since these are heavy I would like to use lighter ones.

I like the kind used in headphones, 3 terminals with a single jack, these are light, cheap and are easily available. Are these suitable for RS 485.

Its important the connection is never broken, I know that the audio jacks usually have a problem when they are rotated...

HI,

Definitely you can connect any other pins than the particular screw type. Audio jacks are minute one. Instead of that you can use any three pins like power supply male and female connectors or any other type you can use based on your need.
