Hi,

I am designing one system which will have DSP and uC. There will be one module to which addon cards can be added or removed as per need.
So I am looking for bus for interfacing add on cards with main module.
As space is major constraint in design, only option I could see is of serial bus.
Also speed has to be more, at least in Mbps.
Connectors for interface will be open i.e. add on cards will not be residing in same box as main module.
Will noise will be a problem in this case.

Currentlt i m considering I2C with 3.4 mpbs?

plz suggest all industry standard buses which I can use in this situation.......

I2C is not designed for long distances, but it is very convinient as the protocol is known and many devices have built-in I2C serial I/O ..
So, if distance between cards are shorter than, say a meter, I would stick with I2C ..

You can also have a look at RS-485, which is very noise immune (differential transmission) but standard speed(s) is lower than I2C, and for full duplex 4 wires (2 twisted pairs) are needed ...

Regards,
IanP

I am evaluating following options now:

1. I2C :
IanP, as distance will not be greater than 1 meter, I2C seems to be good choice
2. RS485
3. LVDS
: how it will be if I use LVDS
4. PCI express:
Regarding this I thinks specs are not released. Plz if anybody has details plz provide

dont forget SPI. It is better than i2c when it comes to speed.

what about the common buses on todays PCs

USB
Firewire
Serial ATA (for hard disks)

I am now concentrating on LVDS for physical layer. But wanna know

which is/are the most popular protocols for using with M-LVDS?

waiting for ur guidance......
