What's the importance of jitter in communication systems?

Do anybody have idea on Jitter. What is its significance in communication system. Is it different from the interference? Which book is best for this topic. ?

Jitter is the "temporal change of the clock signal ", compared to a reference clock signal.. That is , at each point in the circuit , the clock signal's period may be some what deviate from the reference signal period.. Note that jitter refers to change in clock signal at each point...

If u r not clear , refer DIGITAL INTEGRATED CIRCUITS BY RABAEY ..

In that 10 th chapter is completly for timing characteristic... Will include clok skew, jitter etc..

jitter is referred to as the instability of the clock......... it may be change in phase or amplitude or frequency of the clock signal and this has abrupt effect on the output of digital circuits which are critically designed i.e.based on clock skew, noise margin etc.....

In electronics and telecommunications, jitter is an unwanted variation of one or more signal characteristics, such as the interval between successive pulses, the amplitude of successive cycles, or the frequency or phase of successive cycles. Jitter is a significant factor in the design of almost all communications links (e.g. USB, PCI-e, SATA, OC-48).

Jitter can apply to a number of signal qualities (e.g. amplitude, phase, pulse width or pulse position), and can be quantified in the same terms as all time-varying signals (e.g. RMS, or peak-to-peak displacement). Also like other time-varying signals, jitter can be expressed in terms of spectral density (frequency content). Jitter frequency is the time between the maximum and minimum effect of a jitter characteristic for a jitter that varies regularly with time. Generally, very low jitter frequency is not of interest in designing systems, and the low-frequency cutoff for jitter is typically specified at 1 Hz

then what is differene between fading and jitter?

fading results from superposition of signal through different path diffraction........ jitter is that phenomenon in a single signal without superposition..........

Jitter introduces an abrupt change in the circuit it greatly affects the clock period..

here the worst case is considered as i ve considered jitter on both sides..
this is the temporal variation in the clock period......
 

About Jitter

This means Jitter is only for the digital communication system right? Is there any word in Analog world then?

it cant be specifically said to be digital.... jitter mainly is used to refer clock jitter and hence it looks so but actually it applicable for analog too... but in analog the term phase shifted signal is used more......
