what meant by Trace?

Metal layers contains trace... a track you can saw... so traces are "carved" out from whole metal layer to provide signal path to destination
 

in order to get signal from one point to another u use wires in bread board or veroboard.. in pcb you do this by copper tracks called trace.
if you have seen a pcb the bottom side full of copper is the metal layer .. you etch or carve out traces from this layer
