RF vs MF

What is the main difference between RF(Radio Freq) and MF(Microwave Freq)?
Is is differ because only thier frequency?

I think we should better discuss the difference between them!
What is the design issues and problem to use them in our design!
Hope somone could explain more about it!

:D

Re: RF vs MF

In years gone by the dividing line was whether lumped elements or waveguides were used. With the advent of surface mount parts and integrated circuits the division line is blurring. Generally 1-2 GHz is usually the dividing line.

RF is used for telecommunication companies (like GSM technology)
while microwave is used for satellite communication

Re: RF vs MF

Usually term RF is used for Radio frequencies upto 1GHz.

But microwaves start with 1GHz ,this band is dealt differently as
at these frequencies losses and parasitics are quite higher than at RF.

You have different devices ,substrates, connectors specifically made for different
MW bands.

for 1-18GHz range components, materials etc remain unchanged, but for higher MW
bands you need more sophisticated/advanced components, equipment etc.

MW or µwave are more popular notations.
Microwaves can penetrate through the
atmosphere,RF cannot.Hence the later is not
suitable for SATCOM.RF is restricted to terrestrial
communication only.

not totally correct

Its ALL RF !!
uWave is very commonly used for terrestrial comms
its the basis of the links between cellphone towers
broadcast comms links, telecoms links, wi-fi from your router to your computer etc

again really inaccurate

firstly again its ALL RF regardless of the frequency !!

HF, VHF and UHF will all happily penetrate the atmosphere to space or from space to earth

HF is a little more difficult depending on the state of the ionosphere

cheers
