what are the practical applications of cmos schmitt trigger?

Hysteresis prevents a Schmitt trigger from oscillating when a slowly changing input voltage is near the input threshold voltage.

A Schmitt trigger can convert a sinewave input into a squarewave or rectangular wave output with fast rise and fall times.
A Schmitt trigger can give a logic output when its input voltage is slowly changing.

In addition to what is said by Audioguru it also increases the noise immunity.

Beside what is said above it is used to trigger circuits correctly if the triggering signal has too slow rise or fall time signal

It's used also in nobounce filters, mechanical vibration supressors for push buttons, gives to a logic input a clear signal.

i think this character of schmitt trigger can used to fix the waveform not regular and steady the status of output signal.
