I'm a student in China.I like electronics design and program.
My instructor tell me the technology of nios is promising.
Then I want to get some instrction from abroad.
The technology is better than asic? What about arm
Thank you for help

What about @ltera company's nios ii?(Thank you for help!)

noisII just is a soft core of Altera's processor IP that can be implement on Altera's FPGA and do something like SOC.
About ARM processor if any FPGA have it must be a hardware core.

programmability is the advantages of FPGA over ASIC...

Nios technology is promising?... FPGA is promising.. perhaps...

HDL is the key to the FPGA/CPLD... wer u can create nios wth it...

flexibility plus SIPOC builder, you can get your system up and run in few mouse clicks..
Only problem it takes to mutch space compare if you do it yourself..........

But sopc has more stablity and convince of use than asic,is it a replace.. for asic?
What do you think?

SOpC builder is using specifically for the Altera, total tool cost around $3K US, I dont think you can get ASIC tools for the same price, and also learnig curve for the ASIC is larger

Re: What about Altera company's nios ii?(Thank you for help!

The Nios® II family of embedded processors is optimized for Altera® FPGAs and system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) integration.

please go thru altera website where u can get the entire documentation.

We cannot compare ARM and NIOS.

ARM is a leader in microprocessor Intellectual Property. ARM designs and licenses
fast, low-cost, power-efficient RISC processors, peripherals

And about ASIC...

You can learn any HDL as your course progress....

i mean Verilog or VHDL. now the most emerging lanuage SystemC

i think ASIC is still irreplaceable...as customly made or specifically made chip can run more faster than the genearl one like FPGA...

however, convenient of FPGA is wad make it successful... programmability is the main advantage...
