i bought a pickit 2 programmer and after installation on the mplab ide, i found out that the programmer registers on my pc but mplab could not connet with it. please help me out.

Download the Compiler like if you are using PIC18 then also Install MPLab C18 Compiler or Hitech Compiler all details are available in Microchip's website

Hi,

You do not need to load a compiler to see the Pk2, the inbuilt assembler is there anyway.

You should see a drop down menu like this .

Once you connect the PK2 and select it from the menu, you should see a message like this.

Works fine from XP to W8.1

Don't forget you also have the stand alone programmer V2.61 for the PK2 which includes some useful tools ( all free downloads on the Pk2 site)
