Use of ADC to measure sensor output

Thought of making a line following robot using a tiny13.I looked for sensor ckts on the net and found that most of them used a comparator between the uC and the sensor output.My query is when one is using a controller ,cant he utilise the adc of the(use two adc channels by switching them) controler to measure the sensor output
