(un)usable cheap CCD colour camera kits?

Anyone have experience with cheap CCD colour camera kits? Practise, recommendations, hints, comparisons are all welcome.
 

Avoid the "X-10" cameras. They sound nice, and can be had for a very cheap price sometimes, but they are shit. Picture quality is horrible. Most CMOS cameras are, but some of the latest CMOS cameras are acceptable.
 

ive tried taking an IBM web cam and the kodak mc3 apart to use the sensors but both were of horrible quality.. especially the mc3
