Cable Jacket Colour Code?

I was looking for some unshielded multicore cable with a black jacket and found it unusually difficult because most of the reliable manufacturers provide cables with a grey jacket.

Is there a meaning behind the grey colour of a cable jacket? Why is it more popular than the black jacket?
