hello every one:

can any body answer these questions:

1) if the output of the system is greater than the input, what is the device called?give an example? where would we apply such a device in a system?

2) if the output of the system is less than the input, what is the device called? give an example? where would we apply such a device in a system?

thanks and wainting for your answers....

hi friend,

1. Amplifier or Step up Transformer

2. Step Down Transformer ( Either Voltage or Current , But not Both)

Please comment on my answer

thanking you

1. the device is amplifier...
eg: transistor( in linear region), MOSFET ( in linear region), OP AMP, stepup transformer etc..

these are used in signal conditioning circuits ( for interfacing the sensors to electronic system)

2. the device is attenuator..
eg: resistor devider, potenatial divider, step down transformer etc...

these are used for measurement of high voltage and currents.....

The output can be in terms of voltage or number of samples also

The answers given is in terms of amplitude(voltage, current etc)
but when we talk in number of samples, then:

1) if number of samples increases by an amount 'k' of input, then the system is called Interpolation, this is used to increase the frequency, especially in video and audio,
same way...

2)if number of samples decreases by an amount 'k' of input, then the system is called Decimation.
