Singlestrand or multistrand wire??

Multi-strand allows for flexibility, copper work hardens as you bend it so so single large strand wire eventually fractures. You still get fractures in multi-strand but hopefully they distribute themselves along the length of the cable so current can still flow through adjacent strands.

The frequency is irrelevant. At high frequencies there are differences in the way current flows down the strands and multi-strand can have significant advantages but at 50Hz the effect is almost too small to measure.

In rigid configurations where the cable will never be bent, it is cheaper to use single strand.
