As I know HFSS uses FEM (Finite Element Method) to solve a structure. To perform this it needs to generate a 3-D mesh which is suitable for the problem, then it must calculate the matrix of coefficients and solve it to get the fields value in each cell produced by mesh generation. So if you want to save your time you'd better decrease the number of meshes and acurracy. Another parameter which helps you is the number of passes. You may reduce it and simulate your structure. This way you can pre-simulate your problem and correct what you want. After that you may increase the number of meshes, passes and acurracy to get more correct results.
