udn2916

I'm using UDN2916 H-bridge with pic microcontroller to control the direction of two DC brush motor for a school project, but i m having a tough time understanding the operation of UDN2916, I have been researching online to see how UDN2916 works but i am still confuse about the input coming into udn2916, despite looking at data specification sheet provide by allegro, can someone help me with this, thanks. Here are the documents i was looking at:

h**p://www.allegromicro.com/datafile/2916.pdf
h**p://www.allegromicro.com/sf/2916/2916tmg.pdf

udn 2916

From document 2 (2916tmg):
A microcontroller will be using 6 DO lines.
As you can see each step takes 4 clock pules:
during 1 clock pulse Phase1 and Phase2 are H, all I are L
second clock pulse: Phase1 H rest L
and so on..
This clock pulse has to be generated inside the microcontroller and you set the frequency according to data sheets of a motor..
