one possibilty is of mainatinig power quality ( specifically power factor)
1. fisrt part is ac to dc ( converter ) : by sitching the swiches the current drawn from the ac side can be maintained in phase with the ac side voltage.
2. second part dc to ac ( inverter ): this is actual load to the fisrt one .. It will act depending upon the load. we can switch the switches in this inverter, we can get the apprpriate wavefroms.
because of converter and inverter arrangement gives, some kind of power isolation between input ac and ouput ac.
