programming PLD and CPLD - where to start from?

Starter PLD,CPLD

Dear All,

I am new to programming PLD and CPLD, I wanna know where to start from? I am thinking of using a altera or xylinx CPLD.


Though I have done VHDL programming at my college level on a simulator kind of thing (at a very basic level) but i don't have idea on industrial level programming?
Where to get started?

Also, if I need to buy an evaluation board for the same, which one would you suggest? And what stuff would I get with it like board, example programs, design schmetics, IDE etc? as we do get with a controller?
