bga routing

Hi,

We are facing problem in routing a fine pitch BGA in PADS and need help.

Routing specs inside the BGA are 3/3 and outside ithey are 6/6. In design rules, we selected component>U2 ( BGA's ref. desig.) > clearance. Here the track thickness and clearance were set to 3 mils each.

During interactive (dynamic) routing in PADS, the trace width still remains 6 mils, which is the default width, instead of 3 mils defined for the BGA.

But when the same design is routed in PADS router, the track thickness is 3 mils for the BGA which is what we want. We would like to have the same result during the dynamic routing in PADS.

Can anyone please tell us how to achieve this?

Component rules work only in blazerouter same to differential pair ecc.....

routing bga

Hi,

Thanks a lot.

It works in PADS router. When I start routing fom the BGA the specs. 3/3 are properly maintained. But outside the BGA, the width should automatically change to default value which is 6 mils and unfortunately it does not change. Is something wrong in the way we have created the part? May be we have to add another boundary for the BGA. The component rule will be active within the boundary. Beyond that it will be the usual routing. Do you know how to do it?

Hi
in the design rule you should use the decal or component option. With decal, you can mantain the rules for all components that have the same decal, with component it will apply the rule only to the selected component.

As mentioned before by AG1, component rules only work in Pads Router and not Pads Layout. Decals rules are the same. You'll get clearance errors as well if you do the DRC checking in Layout. You'll have to route and do the DRC checking in Router.
