phase shifter ckt for inductive loads

I built a fan speed control based on a triac. It is powered by 120VAC.
I used the simple standard circuit printed on the package.

A potentiometer adjusts the speed. The RC time constant determines the point at which the triac turns on. That is how to create the phase shift.
