Hello everyone,

The white noise generated by passive devices in terms of phase noise is given as: -174+NF(dB)-Pout(dB). In case of frequency doubler or tripler, the phase noise is increased as: 20log(n) where n is multiplication factor.

Lets say I am using some nonlinear device(diode) for frequency multiplication(n=3) and lets assume for the moment that the nonlinear deice has no conversion loss(NF=1).

This will increase at least 9.5dB the oscillator phase noise. My question is at what level will be the thermal noise floor?
