PCB design space constraint problem

I need to design a very small PCB around 5mm x 20mm, double side, four layers. I face lots of difficulties in placing and routing the components, especially those big IC (4mm x 4mm) with 20 pins. Besides, the through plate vias have occupied too much of the space. Can anyone teach some tips to design a highly space efficient PCB?
 

1.Try to change that IC with small size.

2. Place some components on the bottom side.

3. place components too close(but avoid overlapping)
 

You cannot shrink your components so you have to shrink the via's and traces in order to layout the board.

- use smaller via's
- use blind via's ( laser via)
- use buried via's
- use smaller traces/clearances (0.1mm/0.1mm)or even smaller. Make sure that the pcb manufacturer can do this.
- use (laser) via in pad. Don't forget to fill the via otherwise you will have serious assembly issue's

1.Try to place all components to only one side, another side can route trace.

2. Change via size.

3. Power plane can route a little trace.

4.one side only route vertical trace, another side only route horizontal trace.
