source_code_for_capturing_the_xy.htm

I have just bought a cheap optical mouse and I am impressed by it's tracking ability. It has got me thinking if they could be used as a cheap form of position sensor for projects such as home made pcb drilling machines. Does anybody have any information on the linear resolution of these and the form that the ouput of positional data is passed to the pc or indeed any information on projects that have incorporated these in the past.

try using matlab to find the resolution of the mouse. the matlab can show the array which is input when a mouse moves, a different one for every direction
