how to measure internal resistance of a battery

What's a good method to periodically measure the internal resistance of a battery while the battery is in use.

If that's not possible, how can I measure the battery's internal resistance while it is still connected but not in use?

Any ideas anyone?

:?:

please see TI's patent of BQ20z80 which is newest battery gauge product. I forget the US patent number, but with the internal resistor measured, the accuracy would be better than 99%. good luck

As the internal resistance of a battery depends on several factors (% of charge, temperature etc, etc) any measurements will be only estimations ..

For the basic method have a look in "output impedance"- batteries at:

for a voltage source, internal resistance should be less than load resistance and viceversa for current source..battery is a voltage source....
