Hi friends,

I need to know about Xilinx system generator. For what purpose we are using that ?? And whether the blocks are modeled using MATLAB or Xilinx.. I need to know about these things..

And also for using the system generator whether we have to install separate tool or not???

I am having Xilinx 12.4 version for this version which MATLAB version is supporting ???

Thanks in advance:)

we use Xilinx system generator to design a DSP system for FPGAs,or you can also say it is used for modeling and designing DSP systems in a visual data flow environment. In addition, the tool automatically maps the system model to a faithful hardware implementation.
Xilinx System Generator provides a set of Simulink blocks (models) for several hardware operations that
could be implemented on various Xilinx FPGAs.

For ISE Design Suite 12.4, MATLAB R2010a or R2010b these two versions are supported.

you dont need to install separate tool if you have 12.4 ,in older versions like 9.1i u need to install system generator seprately,

this will help you-
you can see Step-by-Step Description for MATLAB+ISE Co-Simulation using System Generator for Spartan/Virtex FPGA's here

this will help you-

Thank u very much for ur reply nick123.

Then wat about the Vivado system edition. Does it has any relation with System generator.???

Thanks in advance....

Vivado Design Suite is a IP and system-centric design environment built to accelerate the design of not only programmable logic in FPGAs but the design of ‘All Programmable’ SoCs and 3D ICs. It Supports largest FPGA and SoC devices(Virtex-7 and Zynq series).
I have not worked on vivado and dont have much knowledge about that so,Let any other member help you with that.

Thanks again nick123..

Now i am having matlab 2012a and xilinx ISE 14.4 version.

So these two are the proper versions for installing the system generator.

My doubt is now if i have installed these two softwares means whether it is enough to do with the system generator...

Reply me with the installing procedures...

yes, ISE Design Suite 14.4 System Edition and MATLAB 2012a is enough.Just install them and start your Xilinx system generator which you can find out in Start button in all programs,Click xilinx design tools below ISE Design suit you will find system generator at atlast, configure sys gen with matlab then open it.

okay thank u very much nick...

Hereafter i will do the installation... After that i will ask for further queries..

there is no need to thank me..after all we are here to help each other.
Just one thing you can do,Click 'helped me' if you found my post helpful. And if you are done for now you can mark this thread as solved and you can ask further queries in a new thread.

I will do this once i have successfully installed all the things and start the new design in system generator :)
