Hi all,

I designed an ethernet solution based on PIC 18F67J60, i was curious about capacitor value at TCT and RCT pins. In my design I have placed 0.1uF/275 VAC capacitor at both the pins which is bulky box sort capacitor while i have seen few design which have smd caps and few with through hole caps with no such box sort capacitor around RJ45, Otherwise board seems to be working fine and is up and running. is this going to cause some damage a board if i replace them with standard 0.1uF or other appropriate capacitor rated for 50v/60v.

What are TCT and RCT pins? If you refer to the 50 ohm termination resistors, they should be bypassed with low voltage ceramic capacitors.

75 Ohm (common mode) termination resistors at the transformer secondary would be bypassed with 1 nF/2 kV ceramic C.

I think she is referring to pins of Transformer used on the Ethernet breakout board.

Don't use bulky MKP/MPF metallised polypropelene capacitors. Instead use 2KV Ceramic as mentioned by FvM.
