Metastability Syamptoms

Hi all,

I have one question regarding the Metastability. Lets suppose that the design has suffered metastability . What could be the Symptoms in the Hardware that make us believe that is has suffered the metastability.

Any past experience with someone regarding this when we are doing the performance analysis of the design may be FPGA/ASIC in the lab. I figured out that we can get delayed clock to Q time or we may get a RUNT pulse instead of the normal pulse. Any other symptoms to catch this. The simulator shows 'X" in the simulation but i am more interested in the performance testing in the lab where we use the CRO /Analyzer setup to diagnose the problem

Any article or material regarding the symptoms will be highly appreciated.
