Module for Labview FPGA is only for their Pci Board with Fpga on that board and not for implementing Fpga on your project. So i think dont bother with Labview for now if you like to programm FPGA.

So there are at the moment no efforts to port LabVIEW FPGA module to a system where you can program FPGA's in LabVIEW on a simple "home made" pcb?

No you can`t at least for now. I`ve been on labview seminar and they told us that it is not possible to port code outside labview(PC) environment. It would be nice if NI could provide us with tool like that.
