Inductance of a straight vs toroidal solenoid

According to widely known formulas, inductance of a long straight solenoid will remain practically the same if we bend it into a toroidal solenoid. I would think that the inductance of a straight solenoid should be significantly smaller because then the total magnetic path is quite a bit longer.
