how to simulate pattern with sdf file ater p&r

Hi,all
I now face a problem.
After P&R, I want to simulate the pattern with sdf file in modelsim 6.5. The patterns are written in parallel style. When I set sdf file like this ,simulate -> start simulation -> SDF -> Add -> SDF FILE ->Delay typ. When the 'Delay' option is set to 'typ' , the simulation will fail and report there is a failing cell. But when I set 'Delay' 'min' or 'max' , the simulation will success. Can anyone tell me the reason, please.
PS: I am not very good in English. Guys who find the grammar syntax error ,just let it pass. Haha...
