Re: Distance measurement

it's important what precision you need and also to be more specific with the measuring range (for example 20..40m, 20..200m or 20..10000m). It's also important the environment and how expensive you expect to be the solution

actually i want to measure upto 50mts.
the main problem must be cost,it must cost effective.
lower range is from 1mtrs.

matthai.

I am proposing a simple technique, which I studied in high school days. Use Goniometer which we commonly use to measure height of the buildings and trees. You should know only Pythogorous theorem.

In case any problem, don't hesitate to contact me.

They sell distance sensors which use paralax - OMRON **broken link removed**
If you go with optics you need to process the signal from some camera, so I don't think this is a cheap solution.

The cheapest distance meters are using ultrasonic - you can buy 1m..30m ultrasonic meter for less than 15 Pounds and they bring quite good precision.

Unfortunately, most key parameters are missing in your post, e.g.:
- accuracy, resolution, speed
- target size and properties, possibly moving
- enviromental conditions (outdoor or still air, lighting)

I think better to use Russian Military Binoculars which can show distance upto 100mtrs. :) )))
