how to calculate speed of an incremental encoder?

i am using an RE22I encoder
which can count upto 8192 counts per revolution,
and has A,B,Z channels.
how can i measure the speed using these channels please help
I'm using this encoder with an fpga which has a system clock,can be used in measuring speed.

You can measure time between each step on the encoder.

You must to compute the gearing factor and multiply to angular speed.
If you are using some device ( microcontroler , PLC ) with built-in hardware encoder module, just take diference between to samples per time unit.
