Can any one tell me that how an optical mouse works

Re: optical mouse

i do some simple test on optical mouse. it seems that it capture the picture of the surface under the mouse lense in the red light of its LED and use image processing to detect the motion and its direction.

optical mouse

Blows ones mind off. So much power at such a low price. I got an optical mouse for $4 last week. Must be producing them in billions of pcs a year.

optical mouse

what Ianp given is right but there are more things (by taking current techs) (for its cheapness) the sensor (CCD) will be less sensitive (not 24 bit colour as that of a camera mostly maximum 8 bit monochrome) and the no of pixels will also be very less say 10 pixel X 10 pixel(around) that is enough to find the motion. and the frame rate will also be very less(not 1500 Fps - Even the best ccd camera is around 100(IMAX movie) frames per second ) and another thing try to use the optical mouse on a mirror it will not work
